In yet another incident of a saffron worker getting hanged allegedly for political reasons a BJP member Varsha Hansda was on Friday found hanging from a tree at Santoshpur village of Danton block in West Midnapore district.
The BJP immediately complained that Hansda, 44 had been murdered by the Trinamool Congress goons so as to thwart the saffron outfit’s advance in the area.
The police have registered case of “unnatural death” and sent the body for autopsy.
The BJP had done exceptionally well in the last year’s Panchayat elections and this year’s parliamentary polls in the jangalmahal districts of West Midpanpore, Bankura, Purulia etc.
This is the fourth such incident in the past couple of years when BJP workers were allegedly murdered and hanged from trees in the neighbouring Purulia district. Alleged murder and hanging (from trees) of three BJP workers — Jagannath Tudu, Trilochan Mahato, Dulal Kumar had hit countrywide headlines last year.
The incidents were repeatedly referred to by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah during election campaigns.
Reacting to the incident BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said the TMC was trying to unleash a reign of terror in the State. The TMC was “trying to terrorise BJP workers by establishing a reign of terror in the state. An active and popular BJP activist was brutally murdered by TMC goons. He was the only earning member of his family,” he.
The TMC leadership however dismissed the charge as baseless saying it was an outcome of intra-party rivalry in that party.
