Yogi Govt does not want Haj House to be built near Hindon: SP leader

SP Singh

Samajwadi Party leaders have alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government does not want Haj House built near the Hindon river bank. They accused the State Government of deliberately not contesting the case in the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

Samajwadi Party leader and advocate Nahar Singh Yadav alleged that the Uttar Pradesh Government wants to demolish the building and its departments are not pursuing the case effectively in the NGT.

Yadav said the Haj House was constructed in Ghaziabad by the then Samajwadi Party Government after due clearances from different departments and a group of over 8,000 Haj pilgrims was dispatched by the then UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in September 1, 2016.

Haj committee had paid Rs 20,000 to each Haj pilgrim, the BJP Government locked the building and over 10,000 Haj pilgrims had to go to Turkman Gate Haj House in Central Delhi. Before going to Haj pilgrimage, a pilgrim had to obtain four to five clearances from different departments in Delhi, in view of this problem the then Government had decided to construct the Haj house in Ghaziabad, Yadav said.

The Yogi Government is adamant to demolish this building. The same departments including municipal body, GDA, irrigation, PWD and district administration, who gave clearance now seems in denial mode under the State Government pressure.

“Its custodian is State Haj Committee, so allowing pilgrims or not allowing them is beyond our jurisdiction so Yadav’s allegations are false” said ADM City Preety Jaiswal when told about Yadav’s allegations.
