Yoga day celebrated on Najafgarh Drain

Staff Reporter

The International Yoga Day celebration in the Capital took on a remarkable significance on Wednesday. . In a turn of events that seemed unimaginable just a few months ago, public yoga programs were organized at eight different locations along the Najafgarh Drain. This drain, once a 57 km-long health hazard filled with filth and stench, has been transformed into a venue for yoga exercises.

Additionally, yoga programs also took place at the Supplementary Drain and the Yamuna River. The participation of hundreds of people at these venues is a testament to the tremendous progress made in cleaning and revitalizing these water bodies.

Under the personal supervision of LG V.K. Saxena, sustained efforts have been made to clean the Najafgarh Drain and the Yamuna River. Various interventions, including innovative desilting methods, trapping sub-drains that flow into the main drain, removal of municipal solid waste (MSW) from the drain and the Yamuna, and the restoration of the Yamuna floodplain, have yielded significant and visible improvements.
