The Delhi Police has registered three cases in which the plaits of some women were chopped off by unidentified persons in South-West Delhi's Chhawla area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-West district Surender Kumar said three people have been seen in CCTV footage performing the act. We have developed photographs of the culprits and efforts are on to crack the case.

"There is no witchcraft angle in the case and it can be ruled out. Three cases under section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 379 (punishment for theft), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Chhawla Police Station," said the DCP.

Police officer said they suspect the accused breaks in the house of women, cuts their hair and also steals items.

The victims alleged that during the incident they were present at home and their houses were locked from inside and when their hair was chopped-off, they did not notice anybody.

"We are verifying the allegations of women. We have a sample of the weapon used to cut the hair and we are going to send the sample to forensic science laboratory for further investigation," said the DCP.

On Sunday, a similar incident took place in Gurugram where a woman approached police alleging that an unidentified man chopped off her plait when she was alone at home.

Her braid was "mysteriously" chopped-off. It was the first such case being reported from the Millennium City.

Notably, several cases of mysterious braid chopping have been reported from various villages in Mewat region recently, and prior to that in parts of Rajasthan.

Sunita Devi, a resident of Ashok Vihar phase-III area, said on Sunday around 10 pm she was attacked by a strange- looking man, in his 60s, when she was alone in her house.
