Delhi Police Commissioner, SN Shrivastava has invited the mothers who gave birth to children in moving Police Control Room (PCR) vans as special guests on the occasion of Women’s Day celebrations.
According to Isha Pandey, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, PCR, Unit, "Women who delivered babies in the vans will be invited and honored at New Police HeadQuarters (PHQ) as guests, on the eve of the coming International women’s Day".
“During lockdown which was imposed on March 24, 2020, the vans had shifted 997 pregnant women to various hospitals in 2020. In nine sensitive cases, babies were born in PCR vans,” said the DCP.
During lockdown, all modes of transports were suspended and ambulance services were also not available due. Most of ambulances were also occupied during shifting COVID-19 patients.
The Delhi Police, PCR vans played an essential role not only in transferring pregnant women but also taking senior citizens to hospital for the treatment.
Narrating some instances where delivery took place in PCR vans, Chinmoy Biswal, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Delhi Police said that on May 16, 2020, the PCR Mobile Patrol Van staff received a call regarding requirement of urgent medical assistance for a pregnant woman.
“A PCR van rushed to the spot, which was in Jhuggi near Nithari Village. The police personnel met the caller and immediately shifted the pregnant woman, Kiran in the van. While the PCR van was on its way, Kiran suffered extreme labour pain. The PCR personnel stopped the vehicle and provided necessary assistance to her during which she gave birth to a baby girl in the van and they have named her Shanvi. Now the baby is about one year old and is hale and hearty,” said Biswal.
“In another incident on May 5, 2020, at about 05:00 AM, the PCR Mobile Patrol Van (MPV) staff received a call regarding the requirement of urgent medical assistance for a pregnant woman. After reaching the spot near Nangloi, the MPV staff shifted woman, Asha in the van and while they were on the way to hospital she suffered labour pain. She gave birth to a boy which they have named Jivyansh in the MPV. Now the baby is about one year old and is hale and hearty. Similar is the story in the other remaining seven cases,” said the PRO.
“The MPVs staff displayed exemplary conviction and commitment to duty by helping the women deliver their babies in PCR van though they are untrained for delivery of babies, thus taking the services of PCR to a higher level,” said the DCP, PCR.
This year, Delhi Police in order to establish a strong bond between police and public had also taken a step to promote its women personnel and they will be deployed in their respective work fields to recognize and celebrate their achievements, on ‘Women’s Day’.
“It is Delhi Police Commissioner, S N Shrivastava'sc vision to exalt women officials’ visibility in force and for this he has also decided to post them to take various responsibilities in their departments. This will also play a major role in establishing communication and friendly relations between public and police,” the PRO had said.
The Police, during this week, have also organized several events which also includes its band which is performing across the National Capital, especially in girls schools.
