Shaiba Ibrar (28), native of Purnea district in Bihar had come to Delhi seeking a great career, but her dreams were crushed forever after her destiny took a cruel turn.

A fiercely independent woman, Shaiba was working as Assistant Human Resource manager at Artech Communications in Noida and had gone for an official trip to Rishikesh. little did she know that it was her last trip and that she would never return alive. On Sunday morning, Shaiba drowned in the streams of river Ganga while rafting.

Shaiba Ibrar resided with her brother Zeeshan in Zakirnagar, in Okhla. They lived in a two-bedroom flat on the second floor for the past eight to nine years. Her brother studied at the Jamia University and parents lived in Purnea, Bihar. Her aunt lived close by.

Shaiba left for Rishikesh on Friday with her office colleagues. Around eight people were in the raft when it overturned while on its way to Muni Ki Reti. She was the only one for whom it proved fatal, as her colleagues survived.

“While negotiating a rock, the raft flipped and all the occupants were thrown out of it near Club Rapid House. There was another woman on the boat who had a miraculous escape, but Shaiba was pushed forward in the gushing stream," he said. Sources said that she was breathing while being taken to the hospital, but succumbed before reaching there. She was rushed to the nearby Government hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Her brother was then informed and he, along with his uncle immediately left for Rishikesh. The body was brought to Delhi's lady Hardinge Hospital on Monday morning. Her brother then flew to Bihar with his sister's coffin for the final rites.

"The irony of life is that she had to take delivery of her new 'Santro car' on Monday and wanted to travel in that. She was happily waiting for the day to arrive and had planned well for the arrival of her new car," said a neighbour.
