Windy week ahead: Met dept

Temperature likely to shoot up by next week

The national Capital is heading for a windy week ahead with strong westerly winds blowing over the city. Due to the ongoing winds, the Meteorological department has also predicted day temperature to remain below normal till Saturday. However, Delhiites will have to sweat it out next week as the temperature is likely to shoot up to 31 degrees Celsius.

“Till March 22, day temperature will be either normal or below normal. This is because of the ongoing winds. From Monday onwards easterly winds will start after which temperatures are expected to rise,” said RK Jenamani, director, Met department, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The temperatures then could go up to 31-32 degrees Celsius, he added.

City dwellers may witness light rainfall over the weekend, said the weatherman. “While the winds are occurring because of the western disturbance, the same may result in light to moderate rain on Saturday and Sunday,” informed an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). For the same reason, Delhi is also witnessing moderate fog early in the morning — a phenomena, which is likely to continue for three more days. On Wednesday, the city observed moderate fog during 5 to 9 am bringing down the visibility to 300-400 metres.

Wednesday came as a pleasant and sunny day in the national Capital. With winds blowing at up to 30 kilometres per hour, the maximum temperature was recorded a notch below average at 28.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature, on the other hand, settled at 16.2 degrees Celsius which was normal for this time of the year. Humidity levels oscillated between 90 and 35 per cent. The foggy conditions are occurring because temperatures are relatively cooler during the night and humidity level reaches 100 per cent, informed the official.

The Met department has forecast clear Thursday after a cloudy start with chances of moderate fog in the early hours. “Thursday morning will be cloudy with mist in the morning, but the sky will clear as the day passes,” said an official of the IMD. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 29 and 15 degrees Celsius, respectively.
