The much-delayed draw for Delhi Development Authority’s Housing Scheme 2014 will finally take place on Tuesday, November 25. While the final trial run will be held on Monday, the urban development agency has finally been able to reduce the time in the entire process from eight to nine hours to less than two hours.

On having finally decided a date for the draw to the 2014 mega housing scheme, DDA Vice Chairman Balvinder Kumar told The Pioneer that the agency has finally been able to squeeze in the whole process in about two hours.

“The draw of lots will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 am. After several trial runs, we have finally been able to complete the draw in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Everyone is invited and the whole process will be streamed live online. Several TV channels are also going to show it. The final trial run will be held on Monday,” said Kumar.

The DDA had initially announced the tentative day for holding the draw as November 5 but it was postponed to November 17. The housing agency then had failed to hold the draw on November 17 too after its trial runs were not found successful in wrapping up the whole process within two hours. In fact, the enormous data, with a record number of 10,08,700 applications for the scheme, resulted in mock draws taking up nearly eight to nine hours.

Explaining the reason for the delays, a senior DDA official said, “Apart from the huge number of applications received, syncing the number of flats, categories and various other parameters also have to be taken care of. Combining all of them together was resulting in the cycle of draw taking too much time to complete.”

Moreover, the 13 empanelled banks also sent the application data very late because of which the authority did not get much time to prepare for the draw and the whole process was delayed, added the official.

The Housing Scheme 2014, which is touted as the biggest housing scheme ever, is offering over 25,034 flats for all categories — HIG, MIG, lIG and EWS. The scheme was launched on September 1 and closed on October 15, after an extension. While initially, the DDA had not received many applications, the extension of the date resulted in the number of applications touching a record high.

The eagerly-awaited draw of lots for the flagship DDA Housing Scheme 2014 can be seen online as the housing authority will webcast the entire event. The draw can be seen live at www.ddadrawlive.in.

DDA has tied up with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) Delhi to manage the Housing Scheme. C-DAC is managing the whole procedure of the lucky draw through a thoroughly computerised system. This will be an auto generated procedure to manage large-scale application.
