The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Tuesday informed that it will bring a censure motion against city Government's now-scrapped Excise Policy 2021-22 in its meeting on August 24.According to a senior NDMC official, the motion will be moved by member Kuljeet Singh Chahal and council will also hold a discussion on alleged irregularities in the Excise Policy.
"We will also seek a clarification from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The motion which the NDMC member is set to move on Wednesday raises four points that include, why has Chief Minister returned the earnest money of `30 crore deposited by the liquor vendors? A big deal is being done, when the commission of the liquor vendors was raised from 2.5 per cent to 12 per cent in the national Capital,” sources said.
Sources said during the censure, the NDMC will condemn the move to give benefit to the liquor mafia to the tune of `144 crore. “The dry days were reduced from 21 to 3. It is the biggest scam of Delhi,” said the sources. "Kejriwal is an MLA from the New Delhi area and also a member of NDMC, so he should attend meeting and give answers regarding corruption done by his Government through the Excise Policy 2021-22," Chahal said.
Another item on the agenda is the renovation and upgradation of the heritage Gole Market building into a museum. A proposal to this effect will be tabled in the meeting and is likely to be approved, Chahal said.
The project has been in the pipeline since 2006, but it never took off because of various issues.
“The NDMC is also likely to clear a fund of Rs 26.71 crore for the renovation project," Chahal said.
The project envisages renovation of the heritage building, construction of a glass dome in its central courtyard, recasting of the first floor, interior improvements with a false ceiling and decorative lighting, he said.
A subway will also be built to connect the museum with other roads in the area and the parking area, he said.
