Thousands of commuters stranded in a massive traffic jam on Thursday at Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway at National Highway 8 after the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) started construction work for widening of the slip roads at Rajeev Chowk.

The commuters trapped in a three kilometres long traffic jam from Gurgaon to Jaipur side, faced traffic snarl at four major intersections which has been underway to Rajeev Chowk. Commuters mostly witness traffic jam at South City, Sector-31, Jharsa and Rajeev Chowk intersection and have to spend minimum an hour to cross one intersection. Due to the widening work, the traffic flow chocked at all the intersections including the service lanes.

It has been a long pending demand by the residents and local commuters at Rajeev Chowk for widening of slip road connecting to Sohna road to make the traffic smooth. HUDA, the civic body is responsible for widening of the E-way slip road which is the part of its jurisdiction.

However, Huda officials blamed the Haryana Government has recently transferred the concerned SDO for this project led to the past delay. “The SDO, Bhup Singh, had a complete knowledge about the entire project but unfortunately he has been transferred after that the project is being hampering. The new SDO has taken the charge of the project but construction work has not been going as per the plan” said Sarvesh Jon, Spokesperson, Huda.

The completion of the slip road widening has already breached its deadline but the officials are claiming to complete it within 15 days. The fortunate thing in the matter is that the traffic near to Delhi-Gurgaon toll plaza was not affected by the widening of the slip roads.
