The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has slapped a fine of Rs 25 lakh on Ecogreen Energy Private Limited, the concessionaire for integrated waste management in the city, for failing to collect household waste as per the agreement.

Notices were issued earlier to the company in compliance with the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) by the HSPCB, but a fine of Rs 25 lakh was imposed on the company for not functioning properly. The firm has been directed to deposit the fine within 7 days.

Haryana Chief Minister Manoharlal Khattar also arrived in the district on Thursday and visited the dumping ground at Old Jail Chowk to take stock of the sanitation system. After seeing the negligence on part of the company, the CM directed the MCG commissioner to take necessary action against the firm.

"Gurugram is the numero uno city of the state. To ensure cleanliness, an arrangement has been made under which the company has to collect door to door garbage collection, daily garbage from the dumping point and ensure proper disposal of garbage, the CM said. Added that he had been receiving multiple complaints against the company for the past several days, due to which he kept his tour program in Gurugram.

"The company has been instructed to lift the garbage every day if the company does not make proper cleaning every day or does not pick up the waste from the dumping ground, then in future it will be fined," Khattar stated.

Khattar instructed the MCG commissioner to ensure the cleanliness works and the lifting of garbage from the dipping ground and a separate committee should be formed for this.

MCG officials said this committee will inspect the dumping point and ensure that the garbage is collected from the dumping points in the city at least once a day. This committee will also ensure the system of lifting the waste from the dumping ground by the firm and if the waste is not picked up by the company then the company will be fined again.

"The company will also periodically review waste collection. The waste collection firm has been given a contract to make sanitation arrangements in the Gurugram district and will not tolerate any kind of negligence in this regard," the MCG commissioner said.
