In late night crossfire between law enforcement and felons, a wanted criminal was critically injured and his two accomplices arrested in the early hours of Tuesday.

The injured has been identified as Vishal Pandit. He was taken to a district hospital in Noida but as his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to a hospital in Delhi.

“Our team was tipped off about wanted criminal movement in the area. A crack team from Surajpur, Dadri and Crime Branch swung into operation. A barricade was set up near Naina guesthouse in Surajpur to apprehend car. They tried to stop the car but the assailants fired on the police squad and tried to flee,” said a senior police officer.

Police tailed the car but the assailants kept peppering the police squad with bullets. Police retaliated in which four bullets hit Vishal. Police claim his other two accomplices — Nitin Sharma and Devendra — were arrested but two others — Sewak Punjabi and Rakesh — managed to slink away. Vishal was taken to a district hospital. Two bullets had struck him in the back while a slug each had pierced his stomach and flank. Police records show Vishal and Nitin carry a bounty of `5,000 on their heads and are named in a murder case in Dadri. Both are residents of Nai Basti area in Dadri in Greater Noida.
