The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has written to the Delhi Government to waive the stamp duty fee for a flat that has been allotted to the father of December 16 gang-rape victim. The girl, a paramedical student, was gang-raped and brutally assaulted on December 16 in a moving chartered bus, triggering a massive nationwide uproar. The girl had died in a Singapore hospital on December 29. Following the direction of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the Ministry of Urban Development has allotted a middle-income group flat of DDA to the victim’s father Badri Nath Singh. The (flat no 118, pocket 3 at second floor in Sector 19) was allotted in Dwarka, which is valued around `50 lakh. The flat was allotted from the vacant pool of the DDA. The issue of allotting a flat to the victim’s family, which hails from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, had come up during a visit by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to their residence. The family had requested for a flat closer to the main city.

In a letter to the Delhi Government, DDA’s Principal Commissioner (land and Disposal) T Shreenidhi has urged to exempt stamp duty fee for the flat allotted to the father. Shreenidhi has stated that the Government should treat it as a special case.

Sources in the Revenue Department stated that the Government can exempt stamp duty fee from the property allotted to the father of the victim as a special case. “The proposal is put up before the Finance Department as a special case,” said sources.
