A day after a 28-year-old teacher of a play school allegedly committed suicide after consuming toilet acid at Dwarka Metro Station, the Delhi Police on Sunday arrested the victim’s husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law.

A case of dowry harassment and dowry death has been registered against them. Police said the deceased was identified as Shilpi Bhandari Sapra, who worked as a teacher in Mother’s Pride play school in Dwarka and she got married to Deepak Sapra, who runs an institute named Academy of Commerce and Science in West Delhi.

On Saturday morning, Shilpi left her home after a heated argument with her husband and in-laws. “The incident came to light on Saturday afternoon; when a passenger found Shilpi’s body on the platform who in turn informed the security personnel. She was later taken to a hospital in Dwarka Sector 12 where she was declared brought dead,” a senior police officer said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim’s mobile was found lying next to her body and it was constantly ringing. Police official picked the call and came to know that her brother was calling her. They informed him about her death. “After checking the victim’s mobile, it has emerged that a few minutes before she consumed poison, she sent a text message to her husband stating that she is going away forever and now he should be happy to get rid of her,” the officer added.

later, police informed the victim’s family members, including her husband about her death. After the incident, Shilpi’s family members alleged that a number of times she had complained them about Deepak harassing her to get gifts in cash and car from them. She had been forced by her husband to commit suicide. However, Shilpi’s in-laws told the police that she was suffering from depression for the last three months.

Based on the victim’s brother complaint, a case of dowry harassment and dowry death was registered against the victim’s husband and her in laws at Rajouri Garden police station. Deepak’s father, Yogesh Sapra and mother Usha Sapra have been arrested.

“The victim’s brother told the police that Shilpi got married on January 29 in 2012 but after a few months of her marriage, Deepak started stooping when she come our home during festivals. He started demanding electronic items, cash and gold. On every festival, they used to present expensive gifts but even after that he used to torture her sister,” the officer added.
