Not satisfied with the tardy police probe, the family of 21-year-old Delhi University student Aarzoo Singh Chauhan, who was allegedly, murdered by her lover on February 2, met Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Tuesday and alleged foul play in the investigations, being carried out by the local police.
Vinay Chauhan, brother of the deceased, alleged that entire Khatri family was involved in the murder of his sister, who was studying in third-year of lakshmibai College. Bassi reportedly assured the family of a fair probe and that the case would be supervised by Special Commissioner of law & Order Deepak Mishra.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vijay Singh said the case was being investigated from all possible angles and action will be taken if the involvement of other family members of the accused comes to the fore.
Arzoo’s family also alleged that the day she went missing they were shooed away by the Additional Station House Officer of Model Town Police Station. “The Inspector told us that she will return on her own. They registered a First Information Report (FIR) on February 6 when her body was recovered. They then tried to cover their tracks by showing that a missing complaint was already lodged with them. It is another thing that the local police did nothing to search my sister,” Vinay said.
It may be noted that 23-year-old Naveen Khatri was arrested on the charges of strangling his girlfriend Arzoo, who lived in the Gur Mandi locality, on Tuesday last and dumped her body in the shaft of his house. Khatri then married another woman on Thursday. Meanwhile, according to sources the trouble for Khatri family is going to aggravate with the family of the new bride lodging a cheating case against them.
The Chauhan family requested the Delhi top cop to investigate the role of the other members of Khatri family in the murder of their daughter. “I can surely say that the entire family helped him to hide the body of Aarzoo after they found out about her killing,” said Vinay, adding, “They despised my sister as we belong to a different caste. We are Rajputs and they are Jats. This is why, they never wanted Naveen to marry my Arzoo.”
“We are not going to rest until those responsible for the murder of my sister are brought to the book,” Vinay told The Pioneer.
“We will fight the accused tooth and nail unless justice is brought to our daughter,” said another family member.
“My sister was not strangled to death but was poisoned. There were no injury marks on her neck... He (Naveen) killed her over the fear of being exposed off the relationship he had with her. Her mouth was stuffed with a tippet in such a way that her windpipe was severely damaged,” said Vijay, adding, “Her mouth was full with ulcers and her face was black. It was in such a condition that we could not recognise her.”
