Two persons were killed and two injured after three vehicles rammed into each other in New Delhi district’s Ridge Road area on Thursday afternoon. A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered at the Mandir Marg Police Station. This stretch is accident-prone and mishaps have taken place on earlier occasions too. The Traffic Police will study the stretch to suggest corrective measures on the stretch.

An official of the New Delhi district police said that the incident occurred around 2.45 pm on the Ridge Road.

A tempo driver rammed into an autorickshaw. It appears that the tempo driver lost control at the wheel and his vehicle collided with the autorickshaw. It had a cascading impact as the autorickshaw rammed into a school bus that was stationed there. It further hit a bike rider who was passing by then. His bike was also hit by the auto eventually.

The auto was ferrying two passengers, identified as Abhishek (22) and Brijesh (21), who were heading towards ISBT to board a bus to their hometown Bhiwani.

The auto driver, Jaswinder, along with his passengers and the biker, Hemant, were rushed to a hospital where  Abhishek and Jaswinder were declared dead on arrival, while Brijesh and Hemant are recuperating. Abhishek was a national level javelin player, while Brijesh is a national level hammer throw player. They were a part of a competition at Race Course road. The tempo driver fled immediately after the incident. The vehicles have been seized by police.
