Vegetable prices have seen a remarkable decline in the last three months in the national Capital, the Delhi Government claimed on Tuesday. Comparing the average retail price of vegetables — like onion, tomato, potato and cabbage — in December 2014 with the same in December 2013, SS Yadav, commissioner of Food & Supply department said, “Prices of many vegetables have shown a declining trend in last 3 months.”

Yadav also said that as per the price information, collected from various markets of Delhi, there has been 31 per cent decline in the price of cabbage, 20 per cent decline in price of tomato and 10 per cent decline in the price of onion in December 2014 as compared to the average retail price in December 2013.

“Price of tomato has also shown a declining trend. The arrival of onion, potato and tomato was significantly higher in December 2014 as compared to December 2013,” Yadav said. He also said that action is also being taken by the Department of Food, Supply and Consumer Affairs against the traders involved in various malpractices and cheating of consumers.

“In the last 3 months, 1,076 traders have been prosecuted under the legal Metrology Act 2009 for various malpractices,” he also added.
