Scores of students, on the first day of their academic session, were taken by surprise as they found Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh among them. The VC made a surprise visit to lady Sri Ram College (lSR), Deshbandu College, Ramanujan College and Acharya Narendra Dev College where he interacted and motivated the students on a personal note.
He highlighted that the university will fill all the gaps between these colleges to give equal opportunity and built strong communication with them in future. He announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh to the first three colleges and also said that the university will fund the start-up, grant for setting-up of the incubation centres under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme across the colleges for ventures of entrepreneurship in the next two months.
“Every student who has been admitted to the FYUP has been promised hands-on training and all resources that they require. The university is committed to support the colleges in ventures to make better class rooms, laboratories and incubation centres. It will be a long process and our hand will remain on them for their welfare. We will start with the initial contribution towards our long achieved mission and in the coming times we will assist other colleges also,” Singh said.
At the Ramanujan College, the VC interacted with students and asked them about their aims and aspirations. A student from Bihar Karan Raj told the VC that he was here to do academically well and that’s why he chose to study in a DU college. Students were more excited to see the head of the university and surrounded him as he toured the campus of their college. While talking to students of Chemistry Honours, he questioned them of what a compound is.
At the college, portable classrooms have been formed to accommodate the students but the college officials complained that in the morning the students were worried as the classes started late around 11:45 am but later on it was managed. “This college was named Srinivasan Ramanujan who is a son of our soil and has done a lot for the nation. I want the students
of this college to read about him and take inspiration from him. You work hard and we are connected to you for your better. Twelve new rooms will be for you with all the gadgets that will help you in taking all the lectures so you need not to worry,” Singh underlined, while addressing the college students.
