Vardhan urges Prez to arrest Tytler, Sajjan

SR

Delhi BJP's chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday requested the President of India that he directs the Home Ministry to arrest acquitted Congress leaders Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar and others for their alleged involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He has also demanded that Pranab Mukherjee should direct the Government for constituting a special team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and also a special court for day-to-day hearing of the case.

The request was made by Vardhan based on the premise that they might influence the few witnesses left in solving the case. "Even after 29 years, justice has not been done to the family members of 3,000 Sikhs killed in the riots in Delhi. The CBI has twice submitted closure reports in the court against Tytler and others under the pressure of the Government. Witnesses of the three innocent Sikhs, killed at the Gurdwara Pul Bangash in 1984, are still present and they have not only identified Jagdish Tytler but also are ready to depose in the case," Vardhan said.

"On pages 63-64 of the book 'Voice of CBI' written by former Joint Director of CBI SS Narayan, it has been clearly written that Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar were directly involved in the riots. But, they are roaming scot-free even today. They are threatening the witnesses. Neither the Government nor the CBI," Vardhan added.
