Upset with sealing, traders call for privatising DDA, civic bodies

Targeting the civic agencies over sealing derive by Supreme Court Monitoring committee, the Confederation of All Traders (CAIT) mentioned that both Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) should be privatised. "In view of the dismal performance of DDA and MCD which have failed to ensure structured development of Delhi in last 60 years and even after lapse of three Master Plans since 1962, it is suggested that both DDA & MCD is privatised and be handed over to professional Agencies for carrying out responsibilities in a time bound manner", said Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General, Traders (CAIT).

He said that failure of both DDA as a planner and MCD as an implementing Agency has created a havoc for Delhi traders who are facing brunt of sealing for their no fault or failure.

"The late release of Master Plans amply reflect the irresponsible, lethargic and casual approach of DDA towards development of Delhi and equal approach of MCD officials in its implementation is the root cause of present vulnerable situation in Delhi for which traders are being blamed and penalized," he added.

"It is noteworthy to mention that Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), duly admitted the failure of the agencies in an Affidavit filed in the Supreme Court in 2007 stating that in four decades," said Khandelwal, "It could develop only 16 percent of commercial space in Delhi and rest of the 84percent  required commercial space was developed by the traders as per requirement of growing population from time to time," he added.
