In an attempt to identify autorickshaw drivers who overcharge or misbehave with commuters, the Noida Police will soon issue unique identity number to auto drivers for their identification.
Following a WhatsApp group for the city women and a Facebook page which is being created, the Noida Police is taking the pro-woman safety drive in the city a step further.
Close to 9,000 auto-rickshaws of Noida will be marked and indexed with bold green numbers on three sides of the vehicle and the name and mobile number of the driver will be written on the back of the driver seat.
Official said they will also computerise data-base of auto drivers.
The Greater Noida autos are already indexed with their unique identity numbers displayed in bold red colour. The Noida autos can be differentiated with their green numbering. Superintendent of police Dinesh Yadav said they will start drive from Botanical Garden metro station from Saturday morning.
“In the first phase, police personnel will mark bold unique identity number on the autos on three sides that will be visible to the commuters. At least, the commuters will remember that unique number if any thing wrong happens. It is difficult for people to recall a vehicle number,” Yadav said.
“We will register all autos with their indexed number, photograph of the auto-driver, the vehicles number and phone number of the auto-drivers in a computerised data-base. It will help to get details of any auto driver found involved in crime.” SP said.
“Sometimes, people lose their belongings in the autos while travelling. Sometimes auto drivers misbehave with the passengers. The women can immediately send the number of the auto-rickshaw, either at our WhatsApp number or Facebook page, or just inform the city police. Police will take immediate action against them,” SP City, Dinesh Yadav said.
“We will also start workshops with the auto-drivers to provide them training regarding behaving with women passengers.” SP added.
