A 55-year-old woman was murdered by unidentified assailants in Khirki Extension in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Thursday evening. The deceased, Madhu Dabra, was with her daughter-in-law Rachna and one-year-old grandchild when two miscreants allegedly equipped with rods or a blunt weapon came to the house on R Block.
“A PCR call was received around 6 pm about a quarrel at the Dabra residence. When police officials reached the matriarch’s house, they found her lying in a pool of blood,” said a police official. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim suffered grievous head injuries, which might have been caused by a heavy object, probably an iron rod or hammer.
Madhu has two sons and one of them, Sanju, stayed in the same locality. He is a CA and works with a leading private firm in South Delhi. Younger son, Deepu, stayed with her and runs a grocery store in Khirki Extension. “Rachna was also attacked by assailants and has been taken to AIIMS where she is recuperating,” said a police officer.
A senior police official said the assailants were purportedly known to the family. “The daughter-in-law claimed that she was also beaten up by the assailants and later locked up in the bathroom. We are not convinced with her statement and will question her again,” he said. Though neighbours said the brothers shared a cordial relationship, police are not ruling out property dispute.
