A massive fire broke out in a footwear factory which quickly engulfed another factory in Udyog Nagar located in Delhi's Peeragarhi on Sunday morning.

According to Atul Garg, Chief Fire officer, Delhi Fire Services (DFS), they had received a call regarding the fire in a shoe factory in K-Block, Udhyog nagar near Peeragarhi around 5.30 am. “Acting on the call, 30 fire engines were deployed to douse the blaze. The fire was finally doused around 5.00 pm in the evening,” said Garg.

“A fire was initially reported from the second floor of one of the factories. During our initial investigation it has been revealed that combustible raw materials in the shoe factory caused the fire to spread rapidly. The two facilities are located in plot sizes of 1,100 and 600 square yards. The fire quickly spread to the other building,” said a DFS official.

“There was no one inside the factories at the time of incident,” said Garg adding that the cause of the fire is not known. “Due to fire there is a huge crack in the wall of one of the factory making the building unsafe,” said Garg.

“We are investigating the matter and trying to find the cause of fire,” said a senior police official.
