Two DU colleges bypass Govt, face show cause

Staff Reporter
The Delhi Government is planning to send notices to the Delhi University colleges funded by it for appointing teachers without informing it. The officials of Directorate of Higher Education has prepared a letter, which will be sent to the two DU colleges for recruiting new teachers without constituting governing body.
“The two colleges which will be served the notice are Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College and Satayavati College,” said a source on Wednesday. Both these colleges are funded by the Delhi Government.
In Delhi Government-funded colleges, at least two members from the Government are supposed to be the part of the governing body. But this time, these two colleges have started the appointment without informing the Delhi Government.
Presently, more than 20,000 students are studying in the Delhi Government-funded colleges. Earlier in April, the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) had written a letter to the Delhi Government-funded colleges not to appoint any regular teachers until the Government nominates the members of the governing body.
Members of Academics for Action and Developments (AAD) submitted a memorandum to the DU Vice-Chancellor and asked him to show interest in the matter. According to the teachers of these colleges, there is no further work carried out in this matter by the DHE. As many as 500 teachers’ posts are lying vacant in the colleges of Delhi University, which are fully or partially funded by the Delhi Government.
From July 25, Delhi University will start the academic session for more than 54,000 new students.
