After the successful use of a chopper for manning traffic movements during the immersion of Durga idols, Delhi Police has decided to use two choppers to oversee the security arrangements for four-day long India-Africa summit starting from Monday. At least 25,000 police personnel including central para-military forces (CPMFs) will man the security on the routes and hotels where the dignitaries from 54 countries have been put up. The security personnel from the participating countries have already inspected and sanitised the venue and the hotels.
Joint Commissioner of Police (security) Tajendra Singh luthra said: “An elaborate security arrangement has been made to prevent any untoward incident during the Indo-Africa summit in the Capital. Two helicopters are being pressed into service. One will keep a hawk eye on the ground from air and another will be prepared to avert any terrorist attack from the air.”
There are at least 500 CCTV cameras installed on the main venue, routes and outside the hotel premises. Special security measures have been taken at the Indira Gandhi Stadium where the dignitaries and foreign officials will meet the whole day with their Indian counterparts. The venue has been covered with 200 CCTV cameras. Snipers will be deployed on the high rise buildings located near the venues. There will be a multi-layered security with the local police on outside, personnel from the Delhi police security wing at the entrance gate and paramilitary inside the IG stadium. Special Protection Group (SPG) will look after the internal security, said luthra.
A total of 5000 personnel will be deployed at the venue and the policemen will be seen on the routes as well. Every dignitary will be escorted with the Delhi Police vehicles from their hotels to main venues.
The security men on the roof tops and counter assault teams will remain deployed in the New Delhi and central district. The quick reaction teams, bomb disposal squad, fire brigade vehicles and ambulances will be on alert to act swiftly on any emergency situation.
