With the spotlight on transport industry in light of the recent National Green Tribunal (NGT) ban on old diesel vehicles, the transporter associations would be using this opportunity to highlight some of their other grievances in a meeting called by Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai next week.
While a date for the meeting is yet to be fixed, Gopal Rai had on Wednesday announced the same during next week where not only transporter unions would be present, but also the commissioners of the departments concerned, including Police, Traffic and Environment. Confirming about the meeting, Naveen Gupta, general secretary of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), told The Pioneer that transport unions would be expressing their concerns about harassment by traffic officials to the Minister, among other issues.
“Now that everyone is talking about pollution caused by diesel vehicles, we decided to take this opportunity to apprise the authorities about issues we face. That’s why we have requested the Minister to also invite Traffic Police and Police Commissioners to the meeting so we could find the solutions in consultation with everyone,” said Gupta.
Transport unions are planning to bring up the issue of entry charges that they have to pay at the entry points to Delhi despite having an all-India permit. This apart, they would also be raising the issue of fast-tracking work on Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway.
