With a view to controlling air and noise pollution, Delhi Traffic Police in collaboration with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has launched a campaign to enforce the guidelines on silence zone to control noise pollution in the National Capital, especially in and around the hospital locations, where a silent atmosphere is required.

The first part of the drive has been started in South Delhi at AIIMS and Safdurjung Hospital areas. The campaign was started recently on Tuesday last (30th October) and  will continue till January.

“Citizens are aware of the law but some of them don’t follow it.  Honking is avoidable, but it requires everyone to change their behavior.

If each driver pledges to curb impatience to honk only during an emergency, our city can significantly lower noise pollution,” said Eish Singhal, Deputy Commissioner (Traffic), Delhi Police.

The Delhi Traffic Unit has also included the school children and colleges students for volunteering who will educate the drivers on the roads about noise pollution and to stop honking.  The traffic Police unit further will also issue challans who will disobey the law by creating noise. “The No Honking campaign will run till January 2018 starting at AIIMS but will also expand to other schools and hospitals.  The campaign will also push the ‘No Honking’ message out on Delhi Traffic Police social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook and will ask the citizens to join,” Singhal added.
