The accused claimed that they had planned to rob the victim of lakhs of rupees but managed to get hold of Rs 50,000.
Police said that the incident happened outside the Presidium School on the night of August 22 when Sanjeev Kumar, the deceased, who owns a cloth manufacturing shop at Shastri Nagar, was returning home. At 8.30 pm, while Sanjeev Kumar was heading home in his scooty, a group of four men on 2 motorcycles intercepted him and tried to snatch his money bag.
The accused opened 4 rounds of firing. After that they tried to fled from the spot. One of the bullets hit Kumar’s leg. Injured Kumar allegedly tried to give a chase to the bikers. In the CCTV footage, it is evident that one of the bikers got down and shot Kumar from point blank range.
The senior police officer said that during investigation, they traced one of the bikes, which is white in colour used in the crime.
