Time's too short for Cong to lick wounds

In its bid to reclaim lost political ground in the national Capital, the Delhi Congress is gearing up to take on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by launching an all-out online campaign against the 49-day rule of AAP Government.

The party that ruled Delhi for 15 long years also intends to counter the propaganda of the then Arvind Kejriwal Government with facts and figures. Congress leaders say that the Sheila Dikshit Government changed the landscape of the city with all-round development. The party plans to counter both the AAP and the BJP by enumerating its achievements.

Sources in the Delhi Congress said that the IT team of the party has culled out the governance modules of the BJP and the AAP Governments.

The online campaign of the grand old party will target the rules of the two rival parties and will draw comparison based on facts and achievements of the Sheila Dikshit Government. BJP ruled from 1993-98 in Delhi. It may be recalled that the BJP had three CMs during its five years rule.

The Congress has drawn parallels on the unemployment front and has come out with figure that shows how the 15-year rule of Sheila Dikshit-led Congress Government provided employment to the unemployed. For example, they were reportedly 5.7 lakh unemployed people in 1997-98.

The number of the unemployed fell down to 1.74 lakh in 2010-11. The city’s education budget went up from

Rs899 crore to Rs5,900 crore in the same period. Even the number of blood banks was increased from 40 to 65 during the Congress rule. The number of dispensaries had also gone up from 179 to 543. Even the number of sewage treatment plants had increased from

eight to 20.

Following the credo that online politics is usually trench warfare, not blitzkrieg, the Congress aims to burst the bubble of fledgling AAP’s aggressive online campaign. The party strategists have finalised the campaign and they will target AAP for making outlandish and false promises to the voters during the December 2013 Assembly election.

State leaders say that they will attack AAP for shelving the Jan lokpal Bill that the party had pitched during its

governance. AAP leaders have stopped talking about Jan lokpal Bill nowadays. It would be interesting to note that Kejriwal tendered his

resignation as Delhi Chief Minister after his Government failed to pass the muster in the Delhi Assembly as lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung did not permit AAP Government to table the Jan lokpal Bill

in the Assembly.

Apart from the Jan lokpal Bill, the AAP had forsaken many other claims that it had made during the last Assembly elections and the Congress will reach out to the people by the social media to expose AAP’s hollow claims, said a senior Congress leader on Monday.
