Hundreds of Delhi University (DU) teachers thronged the roads against the Vice-Chancellor (VC) Yogesh Tyagi for removing about 150 ad-hoc teachers who joined after  July 20, 2019.

The teachers said that the V-C is not taking any action on the agreement passed on December 6 between DUTA and Ministry of Human Resources Department (MHRD) and has not send any communication to colleges.

The teachers held rally called ‘Khali Thali’ from Feroz Shah Kotla stadium to University Grants Commission (UGC)on Wednesday demanding absorption of adhoc and temporary teachers, immediate promotions and various other issues.

As per the recent agreement between DUTA and UGC, all ad-hoc teachers would continue in their respective vacant positions until selection committees are held and will not be converted to guest teachers.

“Till now about 150 teachers has been given termination letter by the colleges. Earlier, the University said they will convert all the ad-hoc teachers into guest teachers. Now after the teachers protest against the notification, the VC is now removing ad-hoc teachers who joined after 20th July.

If the VC will not communicate with the college, they will remove the remaining 700 ad-hoc teachers who joined after 20th July this year,” said the protesting teachers.

“It is unfortunate that University Vice Chancellor is not honouring the agreement of 6th December between DUTA and MHRD and has not sent any communication to colleges.

It is strongly condemnable that several colleges have started terminating ad-hoc teachers who are appointed August onwards in various colleges,” said Pankaj Garg, former member of Academic Council (AC) and convener, Indian National Teachers Congress (INTEC).
