A 12-year-old boy was allegedly thrashed and harassed by a teacher of English when he went to acquire the class prefect’s form from him in Mount Carmel School in South Delhi’s RK Puram on Sunday.

According to a senior police official, the accused has been identified as Hesper Thomas, who is also part of the administration of the school. The accused is a native of Kanpur and stays in South Delhi’s Mahipalpur area.

“When the boy went and asked for the prefect’s form for the position of head boy, the teacher allegedly taunted him saying “how can you be head boyIJ” When the boy protested, the teacher took him to the staff room and allegedly thrashed and harassed him in front of other teachers,” said the police official.

The boy complained about the incident to his parents. The boy’s father is a businessman while his mother works in a Delhi court. After listening to their son’s ordeal, they took him to the South Campus police station and filed a complaint.

“After registering the complaint, we sent a team to the school to question the teacher. He admitted to have thrashed and harassed the boy and was not apologising for the same. The teacher alleged that the boy was gutsy enough to protest against him,” said the official.

The teacher was then booked under Section 323(Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act .

“Since it was a bailable offence we let him go by serving him a notice under 41(a) CrPC where it is not required to arrest the accused. Further investigation in the matter is on,” said the police official.
