Responding to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government’s idea to do way with the house tax, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said the State Election Commissioner should take suo moto cognisance of this and restrain Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from doing so in the future.

“Kejriwal himself wrote letters to increase the revenue of corporations. These letters were written to municipal corporations on June 11, 2015 and February 4, 2016 but now when civic elections are round the corner, the CM is trying to befool the people,” said Tiwari.

While presenting the two written communications to Urban Development Department while sanctioning loan to East and North corporations, Tiwari said in one letter dated February 4, 2016, the Kejriwal Government had directed all the three MCDs not to provide any concession or rebate in taxes, fee or charges levied by them. Tiwari said whatever Kejriwal said in those letters is a clear contradiction to its current stand of abolishing the tax together.

“Earlier Kejriwal had asked the MCD to increase revenue through improved property tax coverage, bring left out properties under property tax net, increase revenue from advertisement, parking, remunerative projects etc,” Tiwari said.

“Shockingly, the AAP Government in its letter has also directed the municipal corporations to remove ad hoc Safai Karamcharis and other class IV staff,” Delhi BJP president said while reading the letter.

Talking about the BJP’s poll campaign, he said since the BJP has formed the Government at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inflation rates of several commodities have significantly fallen in the national Capital.

Tiwari said prior to the formation of  the Modi Government in 2014, prices of  pulses were very high, but in 2017, the same has significantly gone down and in view of this, the BJP will reach out to the masses and ask for their support.

Party National secretary R P Singh, Member of legislative Assembly (MlA) OP Sharma, spokespersons Harish Khurana, Naveen Kumar and Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga were also present.
