As investigators dig deeper into the Indian Premier league (IPl) spot-fixing scandal, the story behind the Carter Road arrest of Rajasthan Royals cricketer S Sreesanth was revealed. According to the Delhi Police, he shifted out of the team hotel at Bandra after he was suspended by the management on disciplinary grounds.
After leaving the Hotel Trident, where the Rajasthan Royals team was lodged, he checked into Hotel Sofitel.
"Sreesanth consumed alcohol and fought with the coach after he was dropped from the team after the May 9 match. For this, he was suspended from the team. That was why he was not staying in Hotel Trident where other players were staying," the official said. Police claim it was the May 9 match, in which he indulged in spot-fixing.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police, on Thursday contacted their counterparts in Mumbai seeking details about the articles seized from the hotel where Sreesanth stayed, said a police official.
The official said they have asked for CCTV footage of the hotel where Sreesanth stayed. Delhi Police also sought to be provided some other articles, like Sreesanth’s laptop and mobile phone, which were recovered from the hotel.
Meanwhile, the police have issued 'lookout notices' against some other people involved in the scandal.
