Cricketer Suresh Raina is now the brand ambassador of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation. Raina who lives in Raj Nagar locality of the city, will help the municipal corporation in spreading awareness about sanitation. Raina accepted the proposal mooted by the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation on Sunday.
Municipal commissioner CP Singh while welcoming Raina said, "I am grateful to Raina for accepting my proposal of being the brand ambassador of Municipal Corporation,"
On the occasion, VK Jindal, Joint Secretary, Government of India and the director Swachh Bharat Mission, said ," It is a matter of pride for Ghaziabad that Suresh Raina, an international star in cricket field, is the brand ambassador of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation."
The Ghaziabad municipal corporation is the only city in 16 municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh which has been declared open defecation-free (ODF).
It is a remarkable achievement for a city which was not included in 1800 plus cities out of 4041 cities in maintaining clean standard in the past. Out of 434 cities surveyed for Swachh Sanrakshan 2017, Ghaziabad stood at 351. The Ghaziabad municipal body has surpassed the target of 275 toilet seats by building 300 plus. In the same manner, it has built 1288 public toilets in the city said Jindal, quoting Ghaziabad municipal reports.
On the sidelines of the event, Suresh Raina, said ," I will offer my best service to the municipal body. I had been emotionally attached with this city. This city gave us strength and hence we were able to win the World Cup."
