A Sub-Registrar, along with a tout, was arrested by Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi Government allegedly for demanding Rs25,000 as bribe.

The accused Sub-Registrar-V of Kalkaji was identified as Rana Pratap Singh and the tout was identified as Mahesh Kumar. The arrest took place after a complainant approached ACB to inform about the bribery demanded by Mahesh, who is the tout of Singh.

“The complainant approached ACP on May 2 with a complaint against the duo for demanding a bribery of Rs. 25000 if wants to obtain an original copy of a registered property,” said ACB Chief Mukesh Kumar Meena.

According to the officer, the complainant’s property located in southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area was registered on April 8 in the office of the Sub-Registrar. However, when the complainant reached the office later to ask for the original registered copy, the bribery demand was made by Singh through his tout Mahesh.

“A trap to nab the duo was laid by the ACB officers following which they were arrested while accepting the bribery,” added ACB Chief.

The case was registered under sections 7 (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration in respect of an official act), 8 (Taking gratification, in order, by corrupt or illegal means) and 13 (Criminal misconduct by a public servant) of Prevention of Corruption (POC) Act 1988.
