Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the aim of their school education was to make students good human beings, hardcore patriots, and employable.
Speaking at the closing ceremony to mark four years of the introduction of the ‘Happiness Curriculum’ in schools, Kejriwal said that in the coming times these students will defeat “hate” and disseminate a “message of love” in the country.
He added that these children will lead the nation by becoming future Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers and top-notch doctors and engineers. They will give a positive and nourishing atmosphere to the society and will help make the country number one nation in the world, he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the ‘Happiness Curriculum’ is the foundation of making students happier and better human beings.
"We have introduced Happiness Classes in the curriculum as it aids in reducing academic pressure. These classes help in reducing mental stress in students and that's why thankfully there is no case of student suicide in Delhi," he said.
Kejriwal said students are able to recognise their underlying potential while attending Happiness and Entrepreneurship Classes. He added that meditation helps them in alleviating stress and boosting their self-confidence.
He further said that `90,000 crore that have been spent over the last seven years is an investment for the future and not an expense.
The closing ceremony held at the Thyagraj Stadium saw an exhilarating drum performance by students. Sisodia held an interactive session with students and teachers regarding their experience of the curriculum. He also sought feedbacks on the implementation of the program.
The ceremony was followed by a Rajyoga Meditation session by Sister BK Shivani. She said that this is the first time a Government is running a happiness curriculum and requested everyone to pledge to take this mission forward to the world.
“Even the wife of former US president Donald Trump had attended the Delhi Government's Happiness Classes and had left impressed,” Delhi CM added.
