JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar — arrested on charges of sedition three weeks back for allegedly raising anti-India slogans in February 9 event held on the JNU campus to hail Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru — was set free from Tihar Jail on Thursday after his bail bond of Rs 10, 000 was furnished by a JNU faculty before a magistrate at a makeshift court in Chanakya Puri Police Station in the highly secured New Delhi district.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Ajay Garg accepted bail bond and ordered for Kanhaiya’s release.

It was on Wednesday when the Delhi High Court granted Kanhaiya six months condition interim bail in the sedition case.

Two other JNU students, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, arrested in the sedition case continue to be in judicial custody.
