The mere talk of Delhi elections being held soon has unnerved MlAs across party lines. Most of the MlAs have exhausted their funds during the Assembly polls in December last year and are virtually cash-strapped if the elections are held in the next few months. So they all want the current status of Delhi Assembly to continue till the political climate is conducive to polls. leadership of Congress, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are talking about fresh elections in the national Capital while MlAs are too reluctant to face the electorate in such a short span faced as they are with severe fund crunch.

The very talk of fresh elections has made most of the MlAs jittery. Talking to The Pioneer, several MlAs from Congress, BJP and AAP and majority of them are not interested in facing the elections. A Congress MlA said that there should not be any elections in Delhi as they have exhausted all funds and they are virtually cashless if the elections are held within a next few months. “I had spent the entire fund in the Assembly polls in December last year. If elections are being held, there is a dim possibility to win it again in the wake of declining vote share,” said Congress MlA. Rumours are also doing the round that at least three sitting Congress MlAs have reported to have threatened they are not in position to face fresh elections in a short span.

The situation is similar to AAP MlAs who have already displayed a distinct lack of appetite for fresh elections in Delhi. AAP MlA from Rohini, Rajesh Garg has reported to have stated at the party meeting that the party should explore to form Government in Delhi.

“Funds and morale are running quite low right now. AAP did well in its short tenure in the Government and we should explore the opportunity of governing once again. However, the decision rests with the party and we are not scared of another election,” said AAP MlA.

Sources in the AAP said that there are at least two dozen MlAs who are not interested to face elections or they are apprehending of losing the election if the fresh elections are held soon. There are also talks in the town that two dozen AAP MlAs are in touch with the BJP to give support in case of the party forms Government in Delhi.
