Former Chief Secretary of Delhi, Omesh Sehgal has written to the Delhi Government’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate whether Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s daughter had offered bribe to get her driving licence. While addressing autorickshaw drivers, Kejriwal had reportedly said that his daughter had offered bribe to the RTO to get her application processed.
Quoting a news report in which Kejriwal had said that his daughter had offered bribe to the RTO to get her application processed, Sehgal said that Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 states that whoever abets any offence under Sec 7 or 11 whether or not that offence is committed is consequence of that abetment, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than six months but which may extend to five years.
The former Chief Secretary said that Section 7, needless to say, deals with public servants taking bribe. “My request to you is to verify the veracity of this report and take action as per law.” Kejriwal had reportedly said: “I could have made a call and got things done. But my daughter went to the RTO, stood in queue and waited for her turn. She didn’t reveal her identity. She told the officer at the counter that she didn’t have one of the mandatory documents. She requested him to process her application without it and tried to bribe him, the officer saw her cell phone and refused to process her application. She told him that she will pay any amount, as it was urgent. But the officer still said no.”
