In what can be considered the biggest gold heist in the Capital, the Special Task Force (STF) of the South district police has not only apprehended all the accused of a ‘tyre puncture gang’ but also made a cent per cent recovery. Around eight kilos of gold bars worth Rs2.5 crore was looted from a Muzaffarnagar-based jeweller in North-East Delhi. Six people, including two juveniles, were apprehended in connection with the case. On September 16, a Muzaffarnagar-based jeweller along with an employee was headed to Chandni Chowk in a hired taxi to exchange three gold bars weighing a total of around 8 kilos, a police officer said. They had a flat tyre near Welcome
flyover in Seelampur area of North-East Delhi following which they parked the vehicle alongside the kerb, he added. “After fixing the puncture, the jeweller noticed that his bag of gold bars, in the rear seat, was missing. Thereafter, a case was registered at Seelampur police station,” he said.
Acting on a tip-off, the STF of South district, which was assigned the case, nabbed all the accused on Thursday and recovered the stolen gold. The accused were identified as Anil, Dayal, Sunny and Vishnu. The other two are juveniles. Police received a tip-off that one of the accused, Sunny, along with two minors was coming towards Vasant Kunj in white car. Police laid a trap and nabbed them.
