St Stephen’s college on Thursday announced a hike it the tuition as well as hostel fee. “Keeping the inflation in view, there has been a marginal increase in the tuition and hostel fees. The hike will be uniformly implemented for all the courses,” a college official said.
“While the course fee has been increased by Rs3,635, the hostel fee has been hiked by Rs2,050,” the official added. The college had last year increased the fee from Rs775 to Rs3,350, the hike varying for different courses.
St Stephen’s offers Honours courses in Economics, English, History, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Chemistry along with the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) pass courses. The fee structure for the students is divided into three categories — course fees, residence fees and mess fees.
While the residence fee has been increased from Rs24,000 to Rs26,500, there has been no change in the mess fee, the official said, adding the course fee is different for each programme offered. The fees are paid on per semester basis and there are two semesters in a year as per the university’s academic calendar.
The admission process for 410 seats available in various courses began on May 28 and the deadline for applications is June 15.
Applications are being accepted only in online mode. While earlier, the college used to enrol students on the basis of a personal interview and cutoffs announced after Class XII examinations, an aptitude test of 30-minute duration has been introduced from this year.
The cutoff will be announced on June 17 and candidates will be called for aptitude test and interview from June 28 to July 8. St Stephen’s being a minority institution follows different schedule and procedure for admissions than other Delhi University colleges.
