Stephen's prunes admissions list

Complying with the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) strict instructions, St Stephen’s College will release its truncated list of admissions on Wednesday, while additionally opening applications for BA and BSc programme.

The college started admissions as per their previous schedule but posted a provisional list of candidates who were selected. Of these candidates, only half would be allowed to take admission in the college now. This move is followed by the addition of the two courses, BA and BCom, which were removed last year because of the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP).

“The provisional nature of selection was meant to preserve the margin for compliance with the guidelines of the University at a time when several issues were undecided. Now that the university has instructed that courses and seats to be offered shall be as they were in 2012-2013, the lists already published shall be modified and republished accordingly by Wednesday afternoon,” said the principal Rev Dr Valson Thampu.

Additionally, there are changes in the composite merit given to students as well. Thampu added, “The provisional lists, already put up, incorporated the university guidelines on handicaps and adjustments about calculating BFS and PCM, as the case may be, which constitute 85 per cent of the composite merit according to which the applicants are selected for admission. All such handicaps and adjustments having been rescinded by the university, the composite merit of the candidates interviewed shall be recalculated for purposes of finalising the list of selected candidates.”

Since BA and BSc programme courses did not receive any applications earlier as admissions were taken under FYUP, the online application facility for these two courses will also be open from 9 am on Wednesday and the last date for submitting the application will be midnight of July 8. There are a total of 400 seats at the St Stephen’s College.
