A Delhi University student was brutally attacked by her jilted lover (arrested on Monday) with a blade as she turned down his proposal. The incident took place in East Delhi’s Kondli area late on Sunday night. The girl was left bleeding as the accused slashed her face and neck repeatedly with a blade. She was admitted to lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where she received 90 stitches and was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital for reconstructive surgery.
According to police, the incident took place around 9.30 pm when the girl was returning home from work. The victim is pursuing a correspondence course from the Delhi University and is also working at a beauty salon in the area. She got down from the bus stand and was walking towards her house. When she reached Kondli Bridge, the accused, along with his crony, attacked the girl with a paper cutter.
The accused were later identified as Wasim Akram and Wasim Khan. A PCR patrolling the area saw the locals gathered at the spot and rushed to help. The girl was found profusely bleeding. “The girl sustained three major injuries to her face, left arm and head apart from minor cuts and bruises,” said a police official. Her condition is stated to be stable now, the officer added.
A case of attempted homicide was registered at New Ashok Nagar police station and Wasim Akram was arrested by police. His accomplice is currently absconding. Efforts are being made to nab him. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused was stalking the girl for the last two years despite repeated rejections. The girl had, in February, also lodged a complaint against Akram. A case under Section 354D was registered and he was arrested. He was later released on bail.
