The Academics for Action & Development (AAD) urged the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University to start the recruitment procedure of teachers as per the requirement of the new Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) without any delay.
In this regard, they also submitted a representation to the VC, in which they reminded him about his earlier assurance of converting ad hoc positions into regular ones through the selection committees by the end of June 2013. “In the light of finalisation of service conditions by the University Grants Commission (UGC), in a recently held meeting, we want the VC to initiate the process of recruitment without any further delay. There have been several meetings between the university authorities and principals of colleges on re-appropriation of seats. Now that they have finalised the number of seats and courses across colleges, we want them to start apointing," said Rajesh K Jha, AAD member and a professor of Rajdhani College. He said before settling other issues, one major requirement is of those teachers who are working on ad hoc basis.
“There are teachers working for decades as ad hocs. The university must adjust them on permanent basis. They work as much as others but have had no incrementsor provident funds to their credit,” he added. The total strength of teachers in colleges of the university is 9,000 out of which 4,000 teachers are working on ad hoc basis.
The Vice-Chancellor had written an open letter addressing the issues of teachers with the introduction of FYUP, where he clearly mentioned that university would make new appointments as per the college requirements for the new academic session.
Sangit Ragi, the Deputy Dean of the university said that the university has asked the colleges to prepare their lists for new recruitmentsthat will happen next month.
“The new appointments will happen before July. The colleges have to initiate the process as they have already been told to give advertisements. We will gear up for fresh appointments after which the guidelines have to be approved by the Executive Council,” Ragi said.
