In order to improve the deplorable power scenario in West Delhi, a meeting was called on Tuesday by Power Minister of Delhi Haroon Yusuf. West Delhi has been the worst-hit area in the National Capital this season in terms of power outages.

In the meeting, BSES Rajdhani Power limited (BRPl) was asked to expedite commissioning of the Hastsal Grid and augment the Matiala Grid by June 30. As Uttam Nagar faces the most prolonged power cuts, it was decided that the discom would keep additional mobile transformers as a back-up in the area.

The meeting was attended by officials of the Power department, BRPl and two senior MlAs of West Delhi. “The discom has been asked to set up an additional sub-station to cater to the power load of Dayalsar Road. Additional transformers have to be placed in the same road and also at M Block in Uttam Nagar,” said an official in the Power department.

“For areas requiring system augmentation, it was agreed that BRPl will continue to impress-upon DERC for speedy approval of the schemes. Moreover now, the consumers who are unable to reach the complaint centres, in case of outages should call at 24x7 call centre on the number 39999707,” he added.

Meanwhile, besides, a major grid failure was avoided on Tuesday which otherwise could have resulted in the collapse of Northern Grid as had occurred on July 30 and 31 last year. “The Agra - Gwalior circuit - I of 765 KV tripped at 1:51 am which caused overloading of second circuit between Gwalior and Agra. The system was saved through immediate load shedding to the tune of 500 MW. Delhi had a surplus power at that time and was drawing 50-60 MW less than the allocated quantum from the Grid,” said a senior official from the Power department.
