Three-sided battle emerges

While there is a simmering election buzz in the South Delhi Parliamentary constituency with the pre-campaign wave enveloping this region, the real ‘high-voltage’ show by nominated candidates is just a day away. Heading for a three-sided battle with Aam Aadmi Party’s Colonel Devinder Sehrawat coming into the political fray yet again, the three candidates from South Delhi have chalked out big campaigning plans post March 26 — the final date for withdrawal of candidature.

Congress’ sitting MP from the area and the party’s candidate for the upcoming lok Sabha polls, Ramesh Kumar is busy mobilising party workers for the battle ahead. He hopes to begin his campaign Wednesday onwards. “He is busy holding party meetings these days. These meetings are important as workers in different localities need to know their leader’s goal and intentions. These workers will later help during campaigning days where they take the leader’s message forward to various households,” said Kailash, an aide of Kumar. On Monday he addressed meetings of the Congress workers in Ambedkar Nagar, Sangam Vihar, Tughlakabad and Badarpur Assembly segments. His speech in most of them range from lashing out at the BJP and the AAP.

Meanwhile, AAP’s Sehrawat believes in wasting no time and has already launched his campaign which also includes spending the night with families in different Assembly seats. “last night he was campaigning in Tughlakabad and he stayed there. He does this every time he goes to meet residents at night,” said Colonel Jaiveer, Sehrawat’s poll manager. Undeterred by his defeat in the Delhi Assembly Elections where he fought from the Bijwasan constituency, Sehrawat has gone full throttle with his pre-poll preparations.

On Monday, he conducted Janta Sabhas in areas like Vishwakarma Colony, Kapashera and Chhatarpur and Harkesh Nagar which was followed by a padyatra in Deoli village and Mahipalpur.

On similar lines with the Congress’ Ramesh Kumar, BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri, is also taking it easy for now. His daily routine includes meeting party workers and visiting a few households a day.

“Now he is busy with party meetings. He is carrying out door-to-door campaigns where he greets and meets people. The real campaign is to start in a day or two,” said a worker in his office.
