Faced with complaints of ‘inflated’ water bills, April onwards the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will finally begin its project of on-spot billing through handheld devices.

Besides, the water utility has also decided to reduce the duration of its billing cycle from 90 days to 60 days. “The 60-day billing cycle will also begin from April. This is aimed at eliminating chances of anomalies in the bills through better monitoring. Moreover, handheld devices shall be used to generate on-spot bills,” said a DJB official. The water utility has also proposed to extend the collection of payment through cheque to the meter reader after bill is generated. “The customer will also be provided with the payment receipt, after the payment is made. At present, 12 zones are covered and from April 2014, this facility will be extended to entire Delhi,” added the official. The DJB has also extended many of its services online. “Online facilities are available for viewing and payment of bills.
