Staff Reporter

After being rushed to the hospital because of infection in the lower respiratory tract, the condition of Congress president Sonia Gandhi is improving. According to the doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital where she is admitted, she went through breathing exercises without any problem on Sunday.

“Gandhi is feeling better and her condition is stable. She has undergone breathing exercises without any problem. She will remain under observation and treatment in hospital today,” said Dr Arup Kumar Basu, Senior Consultant and Chairman, Department of Respiratory Medicine. Her condition will again be reviewed on Monday morning. Sixty-eight-year-old Gandhi was admitted to the hospital on Thursday evening with lower respiratory tract infection and some breathing difficulty.

On Saturday evening, a health bulletin from the hospital had said that Gandhi’s condition was improving and her medications would continue. However, Dr Ajay Swaroop, Chairman (Officiating) said that she would have to remain under observation. Dr Swaroop on Saturday also clarified that any speculations contrary to this about Gandhi’s health were false and unwarranted.
