A car driven by the son of former National President of Muslim Yuva Atankvad Virodhi Samiti (MYAVS) and former advisory panel member of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Shakeel Saifi allegedly ran over two persons who were on a bike on Wednesday night in West Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area.

Saifi’s son Faiz who was behind the wheels was allegedly in an inebriated state during the time of the incident. Enraged over the accident, locals gathered at the scene and thrashed the driver of the car. Police later registered a cross case on the charges of rash and negligent driving causing injury and beating the accused Faiz. Saifi runs a film production company  based in Mumbai.

According to police, the incident took place around 10 pm near the gurudwara on the Masjid Road in Nihal Vihal area. Kishan Kumar Pandey and Shiv Kumar were returning from Dwarka after work. Kishan was riding his motorcycle when a Skoda car driven by Faiz rammed into it.

Eyewitnesses told police that the car was clocking high speed and it ran the duo over who were astride the bike. The police also recovered beer bottles from the car. The car did not have a number plate and had a red beacon installed on it.

According to a police official, the Skoda was at such a high speed that after hitting the bikers it ran over them causing grievous injuries. It appears that Saif who was driving the car lost balance and rammed into an electric pole. Faiz was accompanied by his friend Amit who drives a Gramin Seva vehicle.

The people immediately reached the car and thrashed both of them. Eyewitnesses claimed that the car before ramming into the two-wheeler had also rammed into two stationary carts. The injured were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where their condition is said to be critical. Faiz suffered minor injuries and is said to be recuperating.

“We have registered two FIRs, one related to the incident and the other concerning people beating up the accused. The first FIR has been registered under Sections 279, 337, 427 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Motor Vehicle act. The second FIR has been registered under Sections 323 and 341/34 of IPC,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh.
