Internet users seem to have lost craze in posting photographs on Delhi Traffic Police’s Facebook page through which violators can be prosecuted. The Facebook page has witnessed a sudden decline in complaints received by people. The Traffic Police had launched the noble initiative of prosecuting defaulters through photographic evidence posted on the social networking site to initiate action against those who manage to escape the eyes of the police personnel.
Ever since its launch in 2010, the Traffic Police received 61,247 complaints till 2013 with photographic evidence but last year only 5,256 complaints were received on the social networking site with photographs. Out of these 5,000 complaints, 225 police personnel have been prosecuted based on the photographic evidence.
Out of the 61,247 complaint posts received in the last three years, traffic police have prosecuted 25,972 people. “The maximum posts on the social networking site have turned out to be those which require no action to be taken. In the last three years, 22,000 such posts turned out to be the ones which require no action to be taken. Out of 5,256 photographs uploaded on FB this year, 2,611 have been those which require no action,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla. He attributed the decline in photographic posts to the fluctuation in the online trends which drive people to a new online initiative. “When it was launched, people found it an out-of-the box move and posted photos zealously. The prosecutions are still going on based on the photographic evidence uploaded,” he added.
